History of 555
Â
Built in the early 1980's, 555 Chabanel was designed by architect Arnold Schrier (Carpa Montreal Development Corporation).
The building is constantly evolving and now stands as a monument to efficiency in the centre of the Island of Montreal. This large building, offering nearly one million square feet, dominates the urban landscape for miles around. Its location, architectural concept and wealth of services endow the building with an unrivalled functionality. The presence of the Centre International de Mode de Montréal brings added distinction and prestige.
At the crossroads of major thoroughfares in Montreal, 555 facilitates business dealings and significantly reduces costs and travel time. Its location in the centre of the island and public transit to the door provide access to a large pool of qualified employees.
The aesthetic character of the premises, staff availability, the security setup, the presence and involvement of owner-occupants help create a human environment conducive to productivity.
Open to the world, this true indoor village offers a wealth of services on-site and nearby, a multi-functional external environment, ensuring outstanding quality of life.
The concept of the building, the variety of services and spaces available for economical rental costs all combine to provide value for money.

History of the Neighbourhood
Â
For nearly fifty years, Chabanel Street and its surrounding district have been one of North America’s major textile and fashion centres and a vital industrial cluster. Many manufacturers and designers have set up shop on the street. During its heyday, Chabanel was home to thousands of employees working in vast spaces. All week long, products were designed and manufactured, and then exported around the world. On Saturdays, manufacturers opened their doors to a public eager for great bargains.
The transformation of the textile and fashion industries at the end of the twentieth century forced their Montreal designers to revise their production methods. Despite the departure of most manufacturing, Chabanel remained the central address of design. In fact, today, Chabanel St. still represents the largest concentration of companies and jobs in the industry, not only in Montreal, but throughout Canada.
Bolstered by the presence of world leaders in the apparel industry, Chabanel continues to reinvent itself. This typical industrial street is now ready to be completely revamped and reinvented. It is opening its avenues to all pioneers of creativity: fashion and furniture designers, graphic artists and designers, cinema and television creators, publicists, architects and urban planners, musicians and artists, business people, in short, all those who refuse to live a monotonous 9-to-5 life and for whom inspiration is a way of life.
